Assessment Task Students will be required to submit an E-Portfolio of individual evidence via a website that they develop. Work on the website will commence at the beginning of the year within scheduled classes (which may be in addition to BUS133 classes). Final evidence required for this unit assessment will represent a culmination of activities/exercises worked on throughout the year (within this unit). How you present the information within your website will be up to you; your tutor will be able to advise you and you are also recommended to keep the assessment criteria in mind when developing your web pages. Most of the website development will take place in dedicated classes during this time (depending on your course requirements); thus is will be essential that you are attending & taking part of all scheduled classes that cover website development tuition, as well as completing any work set by the tutor. You will be required to develop a minimum of 6 webpages within your website. It is intended that students will continue to develop their website of ‘evidence’ during their three years at university which can be used as a future employability tool. As such, it would be reasonable to see additional evidence (to that required for this assessment) above and beyond the webpage ‘count’ at this stage. However, please note that only the key requirements detailed below will be assessed and counted within the overall requirements. At a minimum, your website should include: Home page (sets the scene for your website) ‘About Me’ (an introduction to who you are, what your interests are etc) Briefing Paper (on topic below) Employability (personal profile statement, competency audit, goals, Linkedin etc) Reflective Statement One extra page that relates to a hobby you have, blogs, travel etc etc (a page that will demonstrate some of the other skills and interests you have). Page 2 of 11 An outline of the relevant sections is listed below: Briefing Paper Section (approx. 1500 words) You are to write a briefing paper addressing the following topic: HOW PERSONAL BRANDING CAN GIVE GRADUATES A COMPETETITIVE EDGE o The purpose of this section of the assessment is to be able to assess your written skills in both an academic and business context. o This must be your own work; ie you cannot submit work that is the same as other students or those that you may be working with in your group. If you do so, then any such work will be subject to our academic misconduct guidelines & procedures, ie replication, collusion, plagiarism etc). o This section should be approximately 1500 words. It should be written as a briefing paper (in the 3rd person) and contain (at a minimum) the following sections: Background, Current Issues, Implications, Conclusion, and Recommendations. o You must cite your sources within the briefing paper as well as at the end (in the Harvard method of referencing). Employability Section o Personal Statement / Profile A short statement that will give a potential employer an overview of your strengths, what you hope to achieve etc etc o Personal Competency Audit Using the CBI employability skills as a framework, you are to provide written evidence (with examples) of how you meet each skill o Career goal development (in a SMART format) – including objectives on how to achieve them, development requirements, potential issues, reasons for achievement etc. 2 short term goals (ie over the next year) 2 medium term goals (ie by the end of University) 2 long term goals (ie by the time you have finished Uni and have been working for 2 years) o Evidence of your professional personal ‘LinkedIn’ site as a tool for potential business opportunities, networking etc (as a link on your website). This can be done by having a Linkedin ‘icon’ at the top of your page, or a link embedded within your employability page. When setting up your Linkedin site, you must join your course tutor group Linkedin site. Your tutor will advise you as to how you will be able to do so. Furthermore, the link to your Linkedin site must be active; if we are not able to access your Linkedin site via the link you provide on your website, then you will not be able to receive marks for it (as it would not be considered to be a useful tool for a potential employer). Page 3 of 11 Reflective Evidence Section You are to provide a reflective statement on your transition to University and your progress with your studies so far. You may also wish to reflect on specific examples relating to your course such as the relevance / usefulness of developing your website for future studies and employment, your units of study to future employment etc etc. NOTE: Reflective evidence is not a ‘descriptive’ accounting of events that took place. Instead, you are to reflect on the task(s) themselves, what you gained (or not) from completing them, the relevance to your course etc etc. Assessment criteria The key areas that will be assessed are: Academic Briefing Paper Section – 30% Employability Section – 30% Reflective Evidence Section – 20% Website viability (ie professionalism, home page, about me, additional web page, submission of screen shots etc) – 20% Students will be allocated one overall individual mark for the evidence provided within the website. Students will be required to submit a completed the ‘Assessment Submission Sheet’ via Turnitin, which will include screen shots of each webpage. Students will have marks deducted should the screen shots not be submitted with the Assessment Submission Sheet. Students are advised to allow ample time for uploading the document via the Turnitin link (found on Solent Online Learning). It should be noted that students who wish to obtain the Chartered Institute of Marketing or CAM Foundation awards at the end of their course may be required by those Awarding Bodies to meet a higher pass mark in their units. Currently this stands at 50% (Grade C3 or above). These requirements are outside the control of Southampton Solent University and may be subject to change.
