Selected topic ¥ Drug misuse In relation to the chosen topic, explore the wider aspects of health and wellbeing, and the role of the nurse in promoting health and reducing health inequalities. The essay should include the following: Introduction – sets the scene. Briefly explain why you have selected your topic. Explain the relevance of the topic to the role of the nurse. Discussion – analyse the topic and the role of the nurse. • Consider the social determinants of health that could contribute to the selected issue (socio-economic, environment, culture, education, lifestyle). • You may want to include some relevant data / statistics to illustrate the extent to which specific lifestyle choices can affect the individual and the potential consequences within society. • How does the topic relate to government / local policy directives. • Consider the role of the nurse in promoting health and reducing health inequalities – what strategies can be used by the nurse to tackle the issue, what skills may the nurse need, • What barriers or opportunities may exist. • Are there any ethical considerations that the nurse needs to be aware of. • You may wish to make recommendations for nursing practice to improve outcomes for clients in relation to your chosen topic. • Remember to analyse the evidence and theory underpinning the issues being discussed.
