Other Question: An Assignment ” Buffer Overflow”

Hands on Assignment: Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

In this part of the assignment, you will learn how buffer overflow exploits work through practical example. To complete this assignment, you must follow and complete on your own all the steps in the Buffer Overflow Vulnerability Lab provided as part of the NSF SEED project (http://www.cis.syr.edu/~wedu/seed/) and document your experience. The assignment details are available here:

http://www.cis.syr.edu/~wedu/seed/Labs_12.04/Vulnerability/Buffer_Overflow/

For this assignment you should focus on Lab 1.3. Buffer Overflow. Either Linux version is fine but I recommend Ubuntu12.04VM.

This page includes a link to a PDF describing the setup and lab tasks: http://www.cis.syr.edu/~wedu/seed/Labs_12.04/Vulnerability/Buffer_Overflow/Buffer_Overflow.pdf

The end of the document provides an overview of the concepts needed to complete the assignment. The assignment requires access to a Linux system on which you have root access. The SEED project provides virtual machine images that can be used for the assignment:

http://www.cis.syr.edu/~wedu/seed/lab_env.html

You are not required to use the provided VM tool; however, if you encounter difficulties, try using the provided VM image before asking for help.

To show successful completion of the lab you must include in in your submission document:

-Screenshot showing successful running of a linux environment or the VM provided

-Printout or screenshot showing you completed Task1 and Task 2

-A short (one or two paragraph) report detailing the challenges you met in completing this assignment.

Powerpoint Question: ENGLISH Project

Creating the Self

Goal

Your task is to create a “visual” lesson for incoming freshmen on the importance of creating a strong sense of self in order to help them make the transition from junior high to high school and succeed in their high school career.

Role

You are a senior who works as an aide in the guidance department, and you frequently do orientation presentations for incoming freshmen.

Audience

The target audience is a class of high school freshmen who may need a little encouragement to stand up for themselves, get involved in school activities, and just generally integrate into the high school scene.

Situation

The guidance counselor and several teachers have noticed that many incoming freshmen spend (waste) the first quarter of high school trying to “find their way” and figuring out how to fit in at the high school level. These teachers have approached you and asked you to put together a “visual” lesson that highlights some of the traits of a successful high school student.

Product and Performance

Exhibition

You may create a single visual presentation (i.e., a poster or a graphic), or you may create something more like a PowerPoint presentation. The parts of your presentation, however, must address the foundations of the lessons on this unit:
perseverance
being willing to get involved and be active rather than sitting on the sidelines
not letting others’ opinions influence you or cause you to do something that you know is not right for you
setting your own standards and reaching them in your own way

Law Question: Lineups and Other Means of Pretrial Identification

Read the article located in the course shell titled, “The Problem with Eyewitness Testimony: A talk by Barbara Tversky, Professor of Psychology and George Fisher, Professor of Law”. Next, explain two (2) major issues that you can identify as it relates to lineups and other means of pretrial identification.

Discuss two (2) situations in which you feel that Miranda warnings are not required as it relates to arrest, custody, and interrogation.

RESPOND TO FOLLOWING STATEMENT:

After reading the article on problems with eye witnesses is biases and memory issues. When a person recounts an incident they are told about or witness they tend to be unable to tell the story in a neutral manner and end up distorting the information in doing so. When retelling a story a person cannot help but to add their own preferences and biases to it and in some instances end up giving more false information than accurate information. The article spoke about a person being confident in recounting an instance not realizing how they have altered it. Memory also plays a part because after time and the growth of information memory may become fuzzy or biased. It is said that witnesses in a court case may alter their testimony in favor of the first listeners. When a person witnesses a crime they are more likely to remember the incriminating details of the event.

Miranda rights are basically explaining to a person that is going to be arrested what their rights are including the right to remain silent and the right to counsel along with checking to make sure they person understands their rights. But there are times when Miranda rights are not needed and that would be when the person is already in police custody and when the person is under interrogation. Police custody basically means being arrested. In the terms of interrogation a persons id is requested but they have not been placed in custody.

1) In what ways might a former slave identify with Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce? (First Paragraph)

2) In what ways might the same former slave relate to Ira Steward? (Second Paragraph)

Please cite three examples from Chief Joseph’s speech and connect them to three examples from Chapter Fifteen for the first question, three examples from Ira Steward’s speech and connect them with three examples from Chapter Fifteen to support your answer to the second question, and make a direct comparison between Steward’s statement above and the description of “Liberty of Contract” from Chapter Sixteen to support your answer to the third question. When citing the textbook, make sure to use parenthetical citation.
